You're curious to know how they've shaped our socio-economic and cultural history and why they are the fundamental building blocks towards a perfect future. You ache to get inside the psyche of pattern creators and visionaries. You have issues. Patterns 2. Design, Art & Architecture might help with that, but not really. However, for you other pattern lovers, we highly recommend!

It's the follow up to, yes.. Patterns 1.

Does our soul good! Japanese visual artist, Takora Kikiyoshi Futori, whose motto is "Catchy is everything", catches our attention, indeed.

Your happy hands at home want you to know about a lovely, little textile boutique in Soho, NYC, called Purl Soho. They house an array of patterned fabrics, grouped under styles such as "Feedsacks + 1930's", "Whimsical", "Ditsies" and more. Patterns by designers, Alexander Henry and Etsuko Furuya made us smile. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop in and satisfy you inner D.I.Y. geek!

Our friend Ray Fenwick, is some what of a Naked and Angry legend. One of the first adoptors to our modest pattern design bandwagon that may soon grow to a monster truck. Lay your eyes on some of his early N&A patterns.

Well... We just got word from him that he has a new book coming out. It is a 168 page belly bound book of beautiful "typographical comics", called Hall of Best Knowledge.

Slow clap for our friend Ray. Your success is very much deserved!

Geoff McFetridge has a nice and simple design aesthetic that I have always been a huge fan of. I have adorned my torso with many of his iconic tee shirt designs. Now it looks like my walls will be able to get in on the action.

I've always loved 70's throwback to Scandinavian Art (think "The Partridge Family" opening sequence). It was Keanes' "Under The Iron Sea" that led me to the magical world of Sanna Annukka and her regal characters and exotic creatures. But this ain't no Danny Bonaduce ish, as you can see for yourself. OH, and she makes patterns, too. We will pray to the Finnish Gods for a Sanna and N&A union in the not so distant future.

COLOURlovers, a great community-based resource for color inspiration and such, recently announced support for patterns on the website. This is an excellent place to get inspired and excited about the art of the tiling pattern :)

Happy 2008, CL!

Jonathan Adler is a master at taking kitschy, grandma artifacts and re-fashioning them into fabulous, high-end pieces. These pillows from the bargello line are hand embroidered with popular patterns like the chevron, scallop, geometric diamond and injected with the happiest of happy color palettes. We need to raid Jonathan Adler's medicine cabinet !
